Go: a commission

This last weekend at church we were looking at Ephesians 2:1-10, which is 9 verses painting a picture of extravagant grace, and then that last one that describes what we are to be, what we already are, because of that grace.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Not to earn that grace, mind you, but in response. Because so much has been freely given. Because we are so completely loved.

So, after one of our dear pastors made it clear to us how deeply that grace runs, I took a turn. Using some beautiful words from Sarah Bessey, I commissioned my church family into their very own lives. What a wonder! We all have a place, and it’s right where we already are. And it was such a gift to me to memorize and speak these words, to have them running around my heart and brain and soul, because of course I needed them most of all for me.
